Mr. Juracek: I read with interest each of your posts on Flylab. I am certain that the casting method you describe will work for beginners and experts just fine. But would be useful, perhaps, to acknowledge that your method (elbow up, elbow down) is not the only casting method taught by a whole lot of pretty knowledgeable people. The method taught by Lefty Kreh, Ed Jaworski and even demonstrated by Simon Gawesworth in your embedded video, has the elbow slide back prefatory to the wrist snap. In his Fly Fisherman magazine articles and videos, Ed Jaworski supports the view that the elbow slide increases the power stroke and reduces stress on arm ligaments. And in my view, it makes learning easier, because one learns one method, not one for short to medium trout casts and one for belting out 70 foot casts in the salt. I am not voicing any criticism of your method -- far be it for me to argue with a true expert. But when you say that there should be "no push pulling" I think many people would disagree. Thank you. John: thank you for taking the time to reply to my comment. I’m not sure I agree with everything you say, but you’ve given me much to consider. JPC
