You are one very astute guy. I think you described me. A flawed caster who succeeds when he is mindful, half the time.

Master the short game, then add distance. Also, set up intentional challenges when you head out, like casting all day with your opposite hand, or limiting yourself to only one false cast. These artificial limits will force you to adapt as an angler. Every time I see a dog with three legs, I think to myself: that animal doesn't care, and in fact, he's probably better on three than most dogs are on four... ~Andrew

Excellent advice, some of which I’ve done. I’m afraid my casting deficiencies arise from learning how to do it forty years ago, from books and VHS tapes, and not from the wise instruction of an expert. I picked up bad habits which are difficult at 71 years of age to eradicate entirely. But when I’m really mindful, I can throw extremely accurate and long casts, wind or not. There are permit and bonefish and plenty of trout who won’t dispute me.
