Lance Egan put out a video a while back about using Span-Flex for this technique, but it has its own complications. I’ve started using the same dental rubber bands I normally use for Dorsey Indicators.
I’ve also just used my hemostats and just shook them for a few seconds, which does the trick too.
Been using a Fly Banjo for more than a year and it's a winner. Used rubber bands before but they deteriorated quickly. The Banjo is a must have piece of kit now.
I've been rubber banding my CDC flies now for several years, and you are correct. Voila! The dry fly is dry! I stopped using the CDC oil on my flies, too. I really dig the Loon Lochsa treatment and I'm very picky about my desiccant powder - some are better than others. This is a great hack that everyone should know, almost as good as the butt-to-butt, between the leg technique for unsticking stuck ferrules.
